In this workshop you will learn and practise textile techniques such as embroidery, beading, fabric collage, photo transfer and printing, stamping, and anything other techniques you can imagine to capture your memories in cloth.
The form utilised could be as a fabric book (with the option to use an old book cover for your memory book) or by making a textile scroll. You will see many samples of these over the course of the class.
You may want to experiment with preserving old textiles such as clothes or household linens, use scraps and off cuts of previous projects. You will also learn how to transfer photos to fabric using techniques that do no harm to precious old photos.
You may like to capture memories of family or a particular person with this book or scroll being a perfect medium as a memorial that utilises meaningful textiles. Alternatively, you might choose to make a memory of travels or a place such as a family home, again collecting mementos from past experiences. You could also record memories of activities such as your stitching journey by housing items stitched over many years in one location. It could even be a place to preserve precious family stitching safely for future generations.
