Details about making buttons, from Barb:
These nosegay buttons represent just one design of the 5 button types I will offer at the ATASDA mini workshop. These were the very first ones I made way back in 1980 and I have since made and sold 100’s.
I will supply packs for the workshop containing rings etc for $2 each if student require them.
Students should bring
Perle cotton No. 5 in at least 2 colours. Do not buy if not in your stash, I have plenty to share.
Tapestry hand sewing needles No 20 or 22.
Small scissors
Notebook.
Students can make 1 or 5 buttons and I will have notes to share. Whilst they are working, I will give them a potted history of the buttons. I presented a paper on the buttons at the National Silk Museum in Hangzhou China and have had 1400 hits on my article on Acadaemia.com. Very proud of this recognition.
I will have extra rings for purchase if needed.
I have twice taught the button workshop at Fibre Forum over 5 days, once one gets hooked on the buttons, it is compulsive.
